It’s written on the wall: An economic recession is coming. The economic growth is slowing down, and layoffs and high-interest rates are already hitting us hard.

But does it mean we will stop enjoying our lives? Travelling to new places outside your daily mundane lives helps you to break your comfort zone and get new experiences.

And with a fresher perspective on things happening around you, you can plan your life goals better. Look for a new job with the right mindset or start your own online business.

That’s why I’m here to show you 3 simple tips to satisfy your wanderlust despite the current grim situation. Let’s go, wanderers!

Tip #1: Research For A Budget-Friendly Travel Destination!

First things first: budget-friendly places need not be boring! You can explore beaches, mountains and forests without breaking your bank. But for that, you have to ditch your habit of travelling spontaneously!

Because if you don’t plan for your trip, someone else (travel planners hate me already!) will plan the trip for you, which won’t be good. Last-minute flights and hotel bookings are damn expensive!

I’m not saying you draft a minute-by-minute route schedule, but having a clear idea of where you will stay and for how long is always handy.

Let me share this list of 3 lovely yet inexpensive travel locations from around the world:

  • Koh Rong, Cambodia [Star Attraction: Beaches. Estimated cost: $35/night]
  • Agra, India [Star Attraction: Historic monuments. Estimated cost: $25/night]
  • Puerto Princesa, Philippines [Star Attraction: Scuba Diving. Estimated cost: $28/night]

I didn’t include airline travel costs (I’ve tips for that, too), and my estimated costs assume you are on a shoestring budget.

Pro Tip: Don’t try to travel during school vacations. Try to cook food for yourself and walk as much as possible. Good for your health and your pocket!

And what’s even better for your self-esteem? Doing makeup! I have budget-friendly tips for that as well:

Tip #2: Book Flights In Advance And Get Travel Insurance

Once you plan your travel and choose a pocket-friendly location, this tip is always on the cards. But I still felt I should emphasize this separately.

Here’s the fun part:

You can book international flights one year in advance. That’s right, 12 months pre-booking!

But the scary part is that the more you delay, the higher the prices, such that last-minute booking prices go off the roof!

Don’t let airline companies increase their revenue during the recession at the cost of your suffering!

Book your flights avoiding weekends because prices are generally jacked up on Friday-Monday!

Also, don’t sleep on buying travel insurance. Why incur an extra expense, I hear you ask?

Simple. If you have to cancel your trip last moment because of an emergency, or you get ill during your travel, your insurance will have you covered!

Pro Tip: Book your flights after deleting your cookies and use platforms like SkyScanner to find the cheapest flights between two countries!

Tip #3: Learn To SHARE and Enjoy in a GROUP

Sharing is caring, but in our context, it has monetary benefits too. Let me explain:

  • Sharing your room will lower staying costs for you and your roommate. Plus, you will have a chance to meet a new person in an enchanted new location. Isn’t it exciting?
  • You can live on rent in a local’s house and get a taste of their unique culture and living while still saving your purse! That’s right, Airbnb and Couchsurfing have survived the pandemic!
  • Travel in carpooling services like Bla Bla Car to enjoy a ride with a group at a cost cheaper than public transport!

Don’t forget the dumbest trick of all: Travel with all your friends to save on total cost and make your outing a memorable event!

I’ve no hate for introvert wanderers, so here’s my advice for all nerds out there:

Practice mindfulness, bargain for every penny with a foreign shopkeeper, breathe deeply and enjoy the gifts' life has to offer! Sometimes it takes you to a new place to discover the inner beauty you always had!

So there you have it, 3 simple tips for enjoying your vacation despite a grim recession around the corner.

Now, I’ll head over to you.

Which tip did you find the most useful? Is it booking flights in advance or using carpool services in a foreign land?
